Why You Should Build Your Own PC
Why You Should Build Your Own PC
By Michael Quarles
You should build your own PC, if for no other reason than this: you will be the master of the machine, rather than the other way around.
How often have you been stymied by a computer that did something unfathomable in the middle of a project? Did you think you knew what to do, but were leery of trying, for fear you d be in over your head?
I m not saying you have all the answers in you build your own pc, but you ll gain knowledge and insight you wouldn t have had otherwise. Learning how everything fits together, and why, is one of your biggest tools in problem solving.
Yes, many of the problems we have with our computers are software based, rather than hardware. But think of the software problems that are solved when hardware is upgraded. Think of how much better drawing programs perform when more RAM is installed. Think of how a faster hard drive means no frames are dropped in a video capture.
Building your own PC means you ll know how to perform these upgrades, and many more, by yourself. You won t be at the mercy of high dollar repair shops that speak in techno-gibberish. Your money will stay in your pocket, and the mystification you once felt will be a thing of the past.
Actually, once it becomes known that you ve built a PC, people will look at you as an expert. That isn t such a bad thing if you re looking for job advancement, or just to gain new friends.
