Should I Get An iPod Or A Zune?

Should I get an iPod or a Zune player? Answering that question is like answering “Should I get a Chevy or a Ford?” There is no one right answer, it all depends on your preferences and lifestyle.
The Zune and the iPod are both pretty similar as far as price and storage capacity. Both the Zune and the 30 Gb iPod retail for $249. They both have 3rd party accessories available, as well as a user forum (Zune Scene and iLounge) and online services (Zune Marketplace and iTunes). They both will run for about 14 hours before recharging.
The differences come out in the details. The Zune has WiFi and file sharing capability. You can view the Zune video in landscape (wide) or portrait (tall) mode. It comes with an FM tuner, and preloaded audio and video.
The Zune, being a Microsoft product, has support for WMA (audio) and WMV (video) files, which Apple s iPod does not. But then, the iPod supports BMP photos and uncompressed WAV audio files.
As far as downloads available, the Zune offers a subscription service, $14.99 a month for unlimited downloads, while iPod has pay per download. This is one of those “Which do you prefer?” options. Are you going to be doing a lot of downloading, or are you going to be mostly sharing files with friends?
So, like I said at the beginning of the article, it s up to your preference. But then I heard about Zune 2.0, and that put a pause in my thinking. Before you decide between Zune and iPod and put your money down, wait a few months more until summer, when a new Zune box and a smaller version with a flash drive will come out. There s nothing like buying the latest and greatest gizmo, only to find out that it is outdated in a month by the newest gizmo, with more and better features.
