For most users, Microsoft Word is the most popular tool of all the tools in the Microsoft Office package. Microsoft Word started during the early software programs when most computers were still running in DOS mode. However, the version that started Microsoft Word s popularity was the Microsoft Word 95 also known as Word 7. This was then followed by Word 97, 2000, 2002, 2003 and the most recently Word 2007 that was just released end of 2006.

Among all these versions, most people think the best version would be the latest one. However, that depends on your main purpose in using the software. Before making such conclusion, one should consider several issues and limitations that can be affecting to the overall performance of the program or your PC. Hence, make sure to check what type of operating system you are using before you re off to the get your copy.

Is it stable for my computer?

Some programs suddenly freeze or close without the user doing anything. In most computers, this is inevitable due to variation of PC specifications. So be sure to check the stability of the software on your system first. The most stable Microsoft Word version that has been agreed upon by most users is Word 97. However, this does not mean that the later versions are unstable. One of the good features of the later versions is its automatic retrieval system when the program shuts down unexpectedly. However, would you still need a retrieval system when your program is stable? But of course, the choice depends on you. However, file types of old versions need to be converted if you edit them using a higher version of the software. And when you convert these files, you might not be able to access them on your Word 95 again. You don t need to have the latest version, but be sure that your version is still compatible with the latest ones. If you re the type that love feature-rich tool and don t really mind about its complexity, then go for Word 2007.
