Fighting in an Instance Party in World of Warcraft

Fighting in an Instance Party in World of Warcraft

Once you ve set up a new group and have all of the necessary parts, it s time to start putting everyone in their position and get started on your quest, raid or instance. But, it s also important to know exactly how to act when you get into a battle.

The First Step – Pulling

When in an instance, mobs usually arrive in groups of 2-4. When you have two mobs, either your hunter or warrior is responsible for pulling. However, if the hunter pulls, they should immediately pretend to die so the aggression switches to the warrior. If the warrior pulls however, keep everything as it is so the rest of the group can commence attacking while the Warrior holds aggression.

In the case of 3 mobs, you should do one of a couple things. A good possibility is to have a Mage sheep pull. Another good possibility is for a Rogue to sap stun and use the warrior and hunter to pull the remaining mobs traditionally. For the Mage s sheep pull, simply re-sheep the mob until the other mobs are dead to keep the aggression from attaching to the character.

Stunning and sheeping need to be carefully applied, otherwise the mob could eventually revive and transfer their aggression to the Warrior who will then be burdened with too much aggression and die a little too quickly. With undead creatures, there is a specific sapping ability that priests carry known as Shackle Undead that is highly effective when a Mage cannot sheep that undead mob.

In the case of 4 mobs, you ll need to split them up carefully. Two can be tanked normally while one can be stunned and the fourth tanked by a different character with enough armor and HP to last a few minutes. If everyone is in the right place and knows what to do, this isn t that hard to pull off. However, if someone takes the wrong position or fights when they should heal or doesn t take aggression, this could become a problem.

For the very occasional instance in which there is only one mob, have the Warrior draw it and kill it on their own.

The Second Step – Fighting

The most common fight is comprised of three mobs. In this case, the most powerful one should be stunned or otherwise incapacitated. The tank should continue to keep aggression from two of the weaker mobs and the group should focus all of their energies into taking them out one by one. Once the aggroed mobs are dead, all of the group s energy should be put into the stunned mob to kill it quickly. Ultimately, the goal is to quickly and efficiently recognize mob strength and kill them before they get a chance to do unnecessary damage to you.
